In October, Directors Iain Peacock and John Doyle were invited to Hugh Baird College to give a talk to the joinery apprentices about our company Fire doors and Frames and future collaboration with Hugh Baird College. The invite was a great opportunity to explain the recent industry changes in fire strategy, offering an insight outside of their curriculum.
Whilst there, our Joinery Supervisor Bob Day was in the joinery shop and set the apprentices a task to cut a glass opening in a fire door, insert a glass vision panel and seal and bead the aperture. The apprentices then progressed to hang the door in a frame and produce a finished door set.
Building on this initial workshop, 30 students attended our factory in November to observe the same task carried out by Max Weaver and Michael Rowlands, full-time employees and second year apprentices at Hugh Baird College. We were keen to stress to the students their future prospects in fire strategy in the construction sector and the path of opportunity through education and industry collaboration.
